Reset the Check Engine Light on a Dodge Grand Caravan

2019 Dodge Grand Caravan Interior Dashboard and Console

Nearly every Alda driver has endured the frustrating experience of a check engine light turning on, only to have it not want to shut off! On occasion, you may determine that nothing is wrong with the engine, yet the engine light remains illuminated. If you’re currently experiencing this with your Dodge Grand Caravan, you can turn to the experts at the Gregg Young CDJR service department near Doniphan for help.

Disconnect Your Battery

If you’re sure there isn’t a larger issue that needs to be addressed, you can pretty easily do a manual reset of your check engine light. If you’re a novice when it comes to what goes on under your vehicle’s hood, you’ll be happy to know that this process is easier than you might imagine! Follow these simple steps to reset the engine light on a Dodge Caravan:

  1. Turn your ignition off, then put on a pair of safety gloves and glasses.
  2. Find your battery’s negative terminal. It may have a black cap and/or a negative symbol (–). So you’re aware, the positive cap is often red, with a positive (+) symbol.
  3. Using a wrench, loosen the nut on the negative terminal. Then, pull the negative connector from the battery, setting it aside for 30 – 60 seconds.
  4. Finally, reconnect the negative cable, tightening it up again with the wrench.

If this doesn’t do the trick, try removing your gas cap and then screwing it back on. Sometimes, a loose gas cap can allow fumes to release, which in turn causes your engine light to illuminate. If the light is still on after this, you can try repeating the above steps, but your best option at this point is to schedule service with the experts at Gregg Young CDJR. There may be a serious problem.

You should also be aware that disconnecting your battery may result in a hard reset of your Uconnect® infotainment system, so be sure to back up any important information prior to resetting your engine light.
